VMWare Fusion (for Mac)Strengths: Allows virtualization of Windows onto an Intel iMac computer Weakness: Still need a copy of Windows to install What a neat solution to allow you to virtualize Windows onto your Intel iMac and almost seamlessly blend the two operating systems. Two operating systems running simultaneously obviously need more memory to operate efficiently and dual core cpus help a lot too. Parallels is a competing product, but cpu and memory utilization are supposed to be higher, and not sure if Parallels allows you to take...

VMWare Fusion: Solution to Cross-Platform ProblemsStrengths: + easy to get started + can run Windows programs on an Intel Mac without rebooting + Unity allows seamless integration with Mac environment + can also run any other VMWare images for any OS Weakness: - none really. sometimes a little resource intensive. VMWare Fusion is a powerful application that allows you virtualize another computer on your Intel Mac. For most of us, that means running Windows (in my case, XP, which works great). But this could also mean a variety of flavors of Linux, too, especially through the dozens of Virtual Appliances available for download at vmware.com.

VMware FusionStrengths: Run multiple OS's virtually, Unity mode Weakness: No Firewire support Fusion allows you to run many Operation Systems virtually in the Mac OS. You can run Windows, Linux, etc. Supports 32 and 64 bit OS's and multi-core processors. Unity mode is great, it lets you run your windows apps without having the whole windows desktop. It's like having your "start" menu in the Mac OS. Unfortunately, Fusion currently doesn't support Firewire. I hope support will be added in a...

VMware FusionStrengths: Fast, Easy to setup, multitude of prebuilt appliances, support for dual core Weakness: None So Far The built in support for dual core processors is what caused me to switch from Parallels. Easy to setup and use. The ability to download pre-built OS installs is ideal for trying various operating systems. I have used multiple different VM products for the Mac and so far this looks like it has the most features.

Great SoftwareStrengths: Fast (for windows) and has an easy to use interface. Weakness: None I've been using VMWare fusion for about 2 weeks and it does everything i need it to do. It's a must for people who want to make the switch to mac but also have some non mac programs/software they still want to be able to use.

VM Fusion in macbookStrengths: Easy to install, It works well with vasta installed in bootcamp partition. Weakness: Common bugs for first release software, Video and sound driver malfunction. I a using both the parallel and bootcamp to run windows application. Since fusion can run the windows from the bootcamp partition it saves a lot of hard drive space, I was excited about the VMware fusion. However, I got disappointed after installing the trial version. It does boots vista from bootcamp partition, does takes a longer time to boot. There are problems with video and sound driver in...

Good product, but wait for v.2Strengths: combines Win and Mac on one machine Weakness: usual problems of the first release This is a good piece of software that I actually liked better than a similar product from Parallels. This one supports dual processors and comes from the market leader of virtualization products. It does have some growing pains; for instance, the sound didn't work on Windows Vista at first, so I had to remove sound option from the settings and to add it again - then it worked.

Excellent product! Works seamlessly with Mac OSXStrengths: Easy to install. Works seamlessly...never crashes. Very easy to learn how to use Weakness: None that I can think of. VMware Fusion is an incredible product that has actually exceeded my expectations. I have it installed on Mac OS X Tiger and running Windows XP SP2. The transition between both programs is almost simultaneously. I have been able to install all of my windows programs on my Mac including Office 2007, Zune software, and other programs written for Windows only. In addition, you can completely shutdown

Fusion-Long on promise; short on deliveryStrengths: Runs office productivity software in a virtual environment. Weakness: Abysmal documentation. Pretty much limited to business productivity software. No support for non-corporate users. While very good for running MS Office, Open Office, etc., programs requiring greater video capability and multi-processor support is a very mixed bag. The biggest 'gotcha' is the repeated re-authorization of Windows, an issue not mentioned in the documentation until AFTER the section on Windows installation. If you are going to use this software, be sure to read ALL the documentation before you... Advertisement

Excellent Performer
Strengths: Easy installation; allows use of Windows programs on a Mac; performance is good
Weakness: Could have better documentation; Can't use snapshot for backups of virtual machine when running based on bootcamp
I wanted a way to use Windows programs on my MacBook (2 GB of RAM, Leopard) without re-starting in Bootcamp, primarily to run a few business related applications (Microsoft office, Citrix, etc., Windows XP). Since these were not heavy resource demanding applications (unlike 3D games, for example), I was optimistic that they would work fine on a virtual machine and wanted to be able to open them...
